DESCRIPTION DU PINOT NERO FRANZ HAAS 2021

The Pinot Noir from the South Tyrolean winery Franz Haas is a soft and slender red wine that condenses the territorial and varietal characteristics. The producer Franz Haas, who sadly passed away in 2022, was one of the greatest Italian interpreters of Pinot Noir. This noble variety of Burgundy origin, described by the winemaker himself as 'the white among reds', is well suited to cool climates such as that of Alto Adige. To avoid any defects or deviations, this label is bottled with the stelvin cap, a closure for which Franz was a fervent promoter.
Franz Haas Pinot Noir comes from the vine of the same name cultivated on very heterogeneous soils at varying altitudes between 350 and 900 metres above sea level. The vineyards, which have high planting densities, comprise selected clones with low yields to ensure a high level of quality. The grapes are vinified in open steel vats with frequent pumping over and punching down, and the mass is then racked into oak barriques to mature for a year. After bottling, the wine remains in glass for a few months and is finally ready for release.
To the eye, the Franz Haas Pinot Noir expresses a transparent and bright ruby red colour. The nose offers intense aromas of raspberry and other berries, followed by spicy hints of clove and cinnamon. Evocative and fresh hints of undergrowth complete the olfactory context. The light and lively palate is defined by crisp freshness and elegant tannic texture. This Pinot Noir is a potential match for duck or not overly structured red meat dishes. It should also be tried with main courses of tasty fish such as tuna or swordfish.
